A history of innovation.
1998 - Nepean Hospital surgeon Associate Professor Patrick Cregan was the first in Australia and only the sixth in the world to remotely control a robot to perform a cholecystectomy – a procedure to remove the gall bladder.
2013 - First da Vinci robot-assisted surgery at a public hospital in NSW. At Nepean Hospital the robot has been used in prostatectomies and removing head and neck cancers.
2018 - First Australian public hospital to use the Flex Robotic System. The System expands our surgeons’ capacity to perform keyhole surgery in more procedures and on more patients who wouldn’t otherwise be able to benefit from minimally invasive colorectal, head and neck and other surgery.
